Q: How do I select the right sensor length for my tank height?
A: When selecting the correct sensor length for your fuel tank, please keep the following critical sizing factors in mind:
-
Sensor Head Height: Always factor in the additional height of the top mounting flange/head when calculating the total vertical headroom required inside your equipment enclosure.
-
Internal Depth Reserve (Bottom Clearance): Leaving a bottom clearance margin inside the tank is essential. If a sensor is too long, the floating mechanism can strike the tank bottom, leading to inaccurate fuel readings, float jams, or long-term mechanical damage.
-
Recommended 10mm Bottom Clearance: As a general rule, we recommend leaving a 10mm reserve gap between the bottom of the sensor tube and the inside bottom of the tank. This ensures the magnetic float operates smoothly through its full travel range without bottoming out or picking up heavy bottom sediment.
Note: We strongly advise reviewing your final dimensions with your lead technician, equipment engineer, or the technical team. They can evaluate your exact tank drawings and mounting specs to confirm the precise clearance needed for a perfect installation.
